The MAX6956ATL+ is a 28-port LED display driver and I/O expander that communicates via a two-wire interface. Designed for supply voltages ranging from 2.5V to 5.5V, it comes in a compact 40-pin TQFN package. This device provides microcontrollers with up to 28 configurable ports, each of which can be set as a logic input, logic output, or a common-anode LED segment driver. The LED driver ports function as digitally controlled constant-current sinks with 16 adjustable current levels from 1.5mA to 24mA, suitable for both discrete LEDs and common-anode (CA) numeric and alphanumeric LED displays. The general-purpose I/O ports can operate as push-pull outputs capable of sinking 10mA and sourcing 4.5mA, or as Schmitt trigger inputs with optional internal pull-up resistors. Seven ports feature configurable transition detection logic that can generate interrupts on logic level changes. The device supports 16 programmable current steps for each LED, operates over a temperature range of -40°C to 125°C, and uses a 400 Kbps I2C-compatible serial interface. It has a maximum shutdown current of 11µA and supports 16 I2C addresses through a four-level logic scheme using two select pins.
