The Linear Hall Effect Current Sensor Evaluation Board is designed to demonstrate the capabilities of the MCS1802 linear hall effect current sensor for AC and DC current sensing applications. The sensor features a differential Hall array that cancels out stray magnetic fields, providing accurate output voltage proportional to the current flowing through the primary conductor. It offers galvanic isolation between the primary path and sensor leads, making it suitable as a replacement for optoisolators and other expensive isolation devices. The MCS1802 is available in a SOIC-8 package and is typically powered by a 3.3V supply. It supports optimized primary currents of ±50A with a typical sensitivity of 26.4 mV/A. The sensor includes a differential hall array, internal conductor resistance of 0.9 milliohm, and a maximum bandwidth of 100 kHz. The minimum output rise time is 4 microseconds. Common applications include motor control, automotive systems, load detection and management, switch-mode power supplies, and overcurrent fault protection.
