The MCP1603RD-TNY is a Tiny Reference Design board that demonstrates the use of the MCP1603 device in a step-down (buck) converter application. This fully functional evaluation platform allows testing the MCP1603 buck regulator over a wide input voltage range of 2.7V to 5.5V and various output voltages, including fixed options of 3.3V, 1.2V, 1.8V, as well as -1.2V and -1.8V. The MCP1603 is a 500mA synchronous buck regulator offering a compact, cost-effective, and efficient solution. Its high-frequency operation (2MHz fixed switching frequency) enables a low-profile design with minimal external inductor and capacitor sizes, fitting within a 1mm maximum height TSOT package. The device automatically transitions between fixed frequency mode under heavy loads and pulse frequency modulation (PFM) mode at light loads to reduce quiescent current, requiring no intervention for smooth operation. The evaluation board includes test points for connecting input power and external load, making it ideal for portable and consumer electronic device applications.
