The LinkSwitch™-HP device integrates a controller and high-voltage power MOSFET into a single package. It features a newly developed analog control scheme that enables continuous conduction mode (CCM) power supplies up to 90W without efficiency loss or audible noise. The device employs an enhanced peak current mode PWM control with multi-mode operation, using the error amplifier output at the compensation pin to set peak current and switching frequency for output regulation. When the compensation voltage is below approximately 1.25V, it operates in multi-cycle modulation mode with a fixed peak current at 25% of the limit. Several improvements allow stable primary-side regulated CCM operation. It is suitable for applications such as LCD monitors, TVs, adapters, appliances, embedded power supplies (DVDs, set-top boxes), and industrial equipment. The EcoSmart™ energy-efficient off-line switcher features accurate primary side regulation (PSR), a 650V MOSFET for cost-effective and fast transient response, and high design flexibility to simplify power supply designs. It includes extensive protection features such as frequency jittering for reduced EMI, adjustable creepage to the drain pin with a heat sink connected to the source to minimize EMI, and auto-restart limiting power during overloads to 3%. Additional protections include output overvoltage, line brown-in/out, and thermal shutdown with hysteresis or latching. Operating at 132kHz, it reduces transformer and system size while maintaining efficiency—over 75% at 1W input with 230VAC, and over 50% at 0.1W input.
