The TinySwitch™-III is an energy-efficient, off-line switching IC featuring a 700V power MOSFET, oscillator, high-voltage switched current source, user-selectable current limit, and thermal shutdown circuitry. It operates with an ON/OFF control scheme, providing a flexible and cost-effective solution with extended power capabilities. Suitable applications include chargers and adapters for mobile phones, PDAs, digital cameras, MP3 players, shavers, PC standby supplies, DVD/PVR set-top boxes, household appliances, industrial systems, and metering devices. The design maintains constant efficiency even at low loads, making it compliant with CEC regulations and 1W PC standby standards. Its low component count enhances reliability and allows for simple single-sided PCB layouts. The high bandwidth ensures fast turn-on without overshoot and excellent transient load response. Power output varies depending on the application: approximately 10W at 230V with a peak of 19W, and about 7W with a peak of 15W at 85-265V. The device offers low system cost, enhanced flexibility, and exceptional energy efficiency under the EcoSmart™ brand. It includes safety features such as accurate thermal shutdown with auto-recovery, improved auto-restart, and output overvoltage shutdown with optional zener diode. The IC is self-biased, eliminating the need for biasing components, and its frequency jittering reduces EMI filter costs.
