The MAX1655EEE+ is a high-efficiency, PWM step-down DC-DC controller housed in a 16-pin QSOP package. It is a BiCMOS, switch-mode power supply controller designed primarily for buck converter applications in battery-powered systems where high efficiency and low quiescent current are essential. The device achieves up to 96% efficiency and can deliver up to 10A using a unique Idle Mode synchronous rectified PWM control scheme. It automatically switches between PWM operation under heavy loads and pulse frequency modulation (PFM) at light loads to optimize efficiency throughout the entire current range. The controller also features a logic-controlled, forced PWM mode for noise-sensitive applications. Operating over a voltage range of 4.5V to 30V and a temperature range of -40°C to 85°C, it is pin-compatible with the MAX797 and includes features such as programmable soft start, 99% duty cycle for low dropout, low quiescent current of 170µA, and a logic-controlled shutdown current of 3µA.
