The MAX5917AESE+ is a fully integrated hot swap switch designed for positive supply rails up to 65V in a 16-pin NSOIC package. It enables safe insertion and removal of circuit cards into live backplanes or ports without causing power glitches. The device monitors parameters and disconnects the load if a fault occurs, signaling the host with an active-low IFAULT output. During startup, an internal 2.2-ohm power MOSFET regulates current between the backplane and load to 567mA, and it is fully enhanced during operation to reduce on-resistance. Built-in safety features include protection against damage to internal FETs, thermal shutdown, and fault detection such as UVLO, power not good, zero current, and thermal faults. It has an enable input responsive to positive logic signals (3.3V or 5V), allowing the host to disconnect the load as needed. The device supports a supply voltage range from 10V to 65V, operating temperature from -40°C to 85°C, and continuous output current of 400mA. It includes an internal switch and fault monitoring, is IEEE 802.3af compliant, and is suitable for applications in power management, telecommunications, and networking equipment, including IP phones, Power-over-Ethernet, remote power distribution, and network routers and switches.
