The DS2786BG+ is a stand-alone, open-circuit voltage (OCV) based fuel gauge integrated in a 10-pin TDFN package. It accurately estimates the available capacity of rechargeable Li-ion and Li-polymer batteries by analyzing the cell voltage after a relaxation period. The device utilizes an internal lookup table to determine the relative state of charge based on OCV, providing immediate and precise capacity information when a battery pack is inserted. It also incorporates coulomb counting as a secondary method for estimating remaining capacity, which is reported in percentage along with key parameters such as cell voltage, current, and temperature. On-chip EEPROM stores cell characteristics and calculation data. Temperature measurements are obtained via an on-die sensor, and resistance measurements from a pack identification resistor or thermistor are supported through ratiometric assessments on auxiliary inputs. The device operates within a supply voltage range of 2.5V to 4.5V and a temperature range of -20°C to 70°C. Data access is via an I2C interface. It features high-precision measurement capabilities, including 12-bit battery voltage with ±10mV accuracy, 11-bit bidirectional current measurement with a dynamic range of ±51.2mV (1.67mA LSB at ±3.4A), and internal temperature sensing with 0.125°C resolution and ±3°C accuracy. The fuel gauge provides accurate low-battery warnings with low power consumption, making it ideal for smartphones with push-mail features, multimedia devices, portable electronics, and imaging or audio applications.
